Bye, bye 2015! / Żegnaj 2015!

Image
Yes, this is my 2015 in a glimpse. I didn't manage to collect all the works, but at least the most significant are here. It looks like quite a body of works, doesn't it? And I end this year with a nice cherry on top - HERE is an interview with me :) So I feel like ready for a new year and new textile adventures. Let's have a Happy Creative New Year 2016! Szczęśliwego i Twórczego Nowego Roku 2016!

The land of castles / Kraina zamków

Image
When I was playing with ideas for castles , my friend visited Copenhagen and took a picture of an interesting piece of furniture: W tym samym czasie, gdy ja obmyślałam różne warianty zamków , moja przyjaciółka przywiozła mi z Kopenhagi zdjęcie takiego mebelka: The strange castles depicted on this cupboard (?) immediately made me to want to sew something similar. Momentalnie zapragnęłam uszyć coś z takimi zameczkami. So I jumped on the castle roll  and decided to go bigger this time - and went for "The land of castles": Powymyślałam więc swoje zameczki w podobnej konwencji i tym razem zaszalałam - stworzyłam całą "Krainę zamków". It is really quite big - 22 x 35 in and I'm so happy with the result that it hangs in my living room already. As for the small ones - they are published!

Winter tree and a piece of chocolate / Zimowe drzewo i kawałek czekoladki

Image
Still experimenting with laces - well, to be precise with lacy feel rather than real laces. So another tree came to life - the winter one. Nadal eksperymentuję z koronkami, a właściwie raczej z efektem koronki bez koronki. No i powstało nowe drzewo - tym razem zimowe. Bare winter tree waiting for the snow to come and make it less grim. And for those who like these somber moods I prepared some lovely winter tree prints : Nagie, zimowe drzewo czekające na śnieg, który uczyni je mniej posępnym. Ale dla tych, którzy lubią takie surowe klimaty opracowałam kilka zimowych druków :  I myself felt a bit tired working for too long with neutrals and black so I went for a piece of chocolate: Osobiście poczułam się zmęczona zbyt długim obcowaniem z czernią na neutralnym tle i zapragnęłam kawałka czekolady: No, you didn't expect a real chocolate from me, right? In fact it is a combination of autumn trees and lacy connections between them. Nie, nie spodziewaliście się po mnie praw

Botanical laces / Botaniczne koronki

Image
I told you about my love for laces before ( HERE ). Maybe I wasn't clear, but in fact I see laces everywhere. This artwork from 2008, named "My Way" is the first one where I decided to show it off. As you can see,  my laces are a combination of lace patterns and botanical patterns. Jak widzicie, moje koronki to taka kombinacja wzorów koronkowych z roślinnymi. I collect botanical books even longer than lace books. And I use them for inspirations pretty often. Atlasy botaniczne zbieram jeszcze dłużej niż ksiązki o koronkach. I używam jako inspiracji zaskakująco często. For example these trees from my current big project are in fact... ... gr

Autumn cleaning / Jesienne porządki

Image
The weather is beautiful but the days are so short we can't really enjoy it. Falling leaves are more like carpets than tapestries now. I finished this small wall hanging and it is the last one in a series of leaves. I also realized that before I start new projects, I need to make space for them. Literally and mentally. And it is a perfect time for some autumn cleaning - limited daylight makes it less painful to work more on computer or making order on the shelves. Dosłownie i w przenośni. I need to think more of where do I want my art to go next year. And what do I want t

Custom orders welcome! / Tkanina artystyczna szyta na miarę

Image
Yes, I do love custom orders. I take a lot of them and decided to put some light on this part of my artistic activity. As in the popular saying - my best teachers are my customers. First of all, custom order opens a canal of communication between me and the person who really likes my works, who "gets it". Being able to talk to someone like this is a heaven for me. And it doesn't matter if it is about the small, practical item or actual artwork for the wall. In both cases I know I met someone who understands my artistic language. The person who ordered the teapot coasters pictured above came back later with a real challenge - she wanted something for four different persons to commemorate a spiritual event they all took part in. The theme was "tree" (with many deep meanings) and the recipients of the gifts played different roles in this event. So I was asked to make one wall hanging, one rounded table topper and two mug rugs. Here is what I came up with: Tak

Autumn leaves / Jesienne liście

Image
So I've got this old quilt of mine depicting falling Autumn leaves hanging in my bedroom. Personally I love it. I've used many colorful scraps I had at the time to make a background for delicate grey autumn leaves. I wanted the leaves to be almost invisible and I succeeded - which isn't all that good considering the amount of work put into cutting and appliqueing them. I even decided to add a fine black contour line but as for now I did it just with one leaf in the lower right corner. Mundane task. The shape of leaves is a real challenge for my patience but I still find it beautiful because of their lacy factor.

What colour is my Autumn? / Jakiego koloru jest moja jesień?

Image
It depends. While beading red raspberries I wanted something different to relax my eyes. Little did I know how much different. I had a deep need to stitch something dark and shiny. That's how this "Lake in the forest" came to life. To zależy. Podczas szycia malin potrzebowałam jakiejś odmiany dla zrelaksowania oczu. Nie przypuszczałam, że aż takiej odmiany. Miałam głęboką potrzebę szycia czegoś ciemnego i z błyskiem. Tak powstało "Jezioro w lesie" And yes, my eyes were resting during the process. Why? Because it was almost impossible to see anything so I was sewing "from memory". I naprawdę moje oczy przy nim odpoczywały. Dlaczego? Bo trudno tu było zobaczyć cokolwiek, więc szyłam "z pamięci".  I used this rich silk jacquard for the background, dupioni silk for the lake and simple black shapes of trees. So when it came to quilting I was just going through imaginary branches. Tłem jest cudowny jedwabny żakard, jezioro to jedwab typu
