Summer cooking is hot!

Image
Here is my newest textile work with a cooking theme. I finished it some months earlier but much to my surprise I had to revisit it and make some changes. The idea came from an older piece where I visualized the beginning of spring as a big pot boiling with first blooms. "Summer cooking" was made in the summer and I thought it was done although it looked differently from what you see now. I liked it and the response from viewers was great but it dawned on me that people see something different from what I wanted to show. At first it didn't bother me (everything in the eye of beholder of course) but finally I decided to give it another try. Long, autumnal evenings came handy for adding more embroidery stitches here and there. The whole piece remains the same but the small additions make the difference. The sun got some new golden touches too: And the blue leaves appeared: Now you can compare both versions yourself. Hope you prefer "after" th

The world of plants in stitches

Image
For the past few months I was stitching plants. All kinds of imagined plants in many shapes and sizes. I'm fascinated by medieval tapestries, the natural world depicted in them on a very detailed and complex way. At that time they were the most expensive pieces of art considering the high quality of raw materials used and a very long and difficult production process. They were called "mobile frescos of North" and decorated walls of the noble interiors. Of course I don't want to copy medieval tapestries but studying them makes me eager to create complex worlds filled with intricate details, pulling viewer through the layers and textures just to amaze them and bring joy of unexpected discoveries. It's not fashionable nowadays to spend hours on this kind of time consuming work, but who cares? At least it is the time well spent and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who appreciate this kind of work. Wanna see some process pictures? Enjoy!

Botanical garden in a scale / Mały ogród botaniczny

Hello again after a long break! Well, I'm still working but mostly on secret projects and little or nothing to show. But now it's different - I finished this little jewel and have to share it with you immediately. The story of this "Botanical garden" started one year ago. Just after coming back from "Ziołowy Zakątek" - botanical herbal garden mentioned here many times. I knew and told you that the beauty and meaning of this garden made a huge impact on me. And the idea of embroidering small botanical garden went live immediately after the return. Wiedziałam i mówiałam Wam, że urok tego ogrodu wywarł na mnie duży wpł

Folklore in my gardens / Baśniowe ogrody

Desperately trying to meet some deadlines I'm really happy when I manage to squeeze some little projects just for fun.  So here come the little fairies playing in the night garden. Oh well, I'm teasing you because in fact there are fairies on cards: Bardzo się cieszę, kiedy w napięty grafik terminów udaje mi się wcisnąć coś małego, ot tak  dla czystej przyjemności szycia. I tak się właśnie wcisnęły  małe wróżki bawiące się nocą w ogrodzie. No, troszkę to podkolorowałam, bo wróżki są osobno na kartkach: and  "Night in the garden" with just plants. a "Noc w ogrodzie" to tylko roślinki. But as garden seems rather magical one can see it as a perfect setting for little fairies, right? Ale ogród raczej baśniowy, więc dla wróżek wymarzony, prawda? And as I'm deeply into folklore right now (even wrote an article about traditional Polish folk textiles - go and read it on "Folklore Thursday" ), all the dots are connected :) A ja teraz mocn
