Autumn cleaning / Jesienne porządki

Image
The weather is beautiful but the days are so short we can't really enjoy it. Falling leaves are more like carpets than tapestries now. I finished this small wall hanging and it is the last one in a series of leaves. I also realized that before I start new projects, I need to make space for them. Literally and mentally. And it is a perfect time for some autumn cleaning - limited daylight makes it less painful to work more on computer or making order on the shelves. Dosłownie i w przenośni. I need to think more of where do I want my art to go next year. And what do I want t

Custom orders welcome! / Tkanina artystyczna szyta na miarę

Yes, I do love custom orders. I take a lot of them and decided to put some light on this part of my artistic activity. As in the popular saying - my best teachers are my customers. First of all, custom order opens a canal of communication between me and the person who really likes my works, who "gets it". Being able to talk to someone like this is a heaven for me. And it doesn't matter if it is about the small, practical item or actual artwork for the wall. In both cases I know I met someone who understands my artistic language. The person who ordered the teapot coasters pictured above came back later with a real challenge - she wanted something for four different persons to commemorate a spiritual event they all took part in. The theme was "tree" (with many deep meanings) and the recipients of the gifts played different roles in this event. So I was asked to make one wall hanging, one rounded table topper and two mug rugs. Here is what I came up with: Tak

Autumn leaves / Jesienne liście

So I've got this old quilt of mine depicting falling Autumn leaves hanging in my bedroom. Personally I love it. I've used many colorful scraps I had at the time to make a background for delicate grey autumn leaves. I wanted the leaves to be almost invisible and I succeeded - which isn't all that good considering the amount of work put into cutting and appliqueing them. I even decided to add a fine black contour line but as for now I did it just with one leaf in the lower right corner. Mundane task. The shape of leaves is a real challenge for my patience but I still find it beautiful because of their lacy factor.

What colour is my Autumn? / Jakiego koloru jest moja jesień?

It depends. While beading red raspberries I wanted something different to relax my eyes. Little did I know how much different. I had a deep need to stitch something dark and shiny. That's how this "Lake in the forest" came to life. To zależy. Podczas szycia malin potrzebowałam jakiejś odmiany dla zrelaksowania oczu. Nie przypuszczałam, że aż takiej odmiany. Miałam głęboką potrzebę szycia czegoś ciemnego i z błyskiem. Tak powstało "Jezioro w lesie" And yes, my eyes were resting during the process. Why? Because it was almost impossible to see anything so I was sewing "from memory". I naprawdę moje oczy przy nim odpoczywały. Dlaczego? Bo trudno tu było zobaczyć cokolwiek, więc szyłam "z pamięci".  I used this rich silk jacquard for the background, dupioni silk for the lake and simple black shapes of trees. So when it came to quilting I was just going through imaginary branches. Tłem jest cudowny jedwabny żakard, jezioro to jedwab typu

Raspberry Hills / Malinowe wzgórza

So the raspberries aren't that shining but they seem rather strong and powerful (and a bit patriotic considering these are the colors of Polish flag). Another kitchen landscape completed. And I thought it is a good occasion to reveal some details of the whole concept. As you know, I take the pictures of actual foods/veggies and I show them along the textile works. For example, the picture of blueberries and blackberries looked like this: Kolejny pejzaż kuchenny do kolekcji. Na przykład moje jagody i jeżyny wyglądały tak: Sometimes I make the artwork exactly the same as picture, sometimes differently. What I find interesting is the fact that the first is the kitchen "scene"

Urban landscapes / Pejzaż miejski

I'm a city girl so as much as I love nature, I can see the poetry in urban landscapes too. My "Sunrise in the city" has nothing in common with my city, but a lot with a moment when the first rays of light start jumping through the big, grey buildings. I love this very beginning of the day so this piece is, sort of, the sum of all the urban sunrises I've experienced. Uwielbiam ten prapoczątek dnia i, w pewnym sensie, ta praca stanowi sumę wszystkich moich miejskich poranków. And the best part is that every morning, no matter the weather, there's always this magical moment of pink light. Yes, even grey days start with a minute of pal
