Bye bye 2016 / Żegnaj 2016

Image
Here is my 2016 in a glimpse - not all the works I created but the ones most important. It was a tough year and I'm really happy it comes to an end. But no resolutions for the new one. They don't work on me and I'm not even good in planning. It's much better to take it bite by bite as it comes. 2017 in Chinese calendar will be the Year of the Rooster. You know that I love roosters - here is one of them wishing you Happy New 2017 Year!

Image
This is a little bird I stitched some months ago. I named it "The bird of hope" because it was inspired by Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope". And now, in this rough time, I can't find any better words for Season's Greetings than this little piece of poetry: "Hope" is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - Tego małego ptaszka uszyłam kilka miesięcy temu. Nazwałam go "Ptaszkiem nadziei" ponieważ powstał z inspiracji wierszem Emily Dickinson "Nadzieja" (w tłumaczeniu Ludmiły Marjańskiej).

Winter dresses / W zimowej szacie

Image
If you remember my former wintry textile works ( THIS one or THIS ) you know, that I see laces in winter landscapes. So you won't be surprised that this little piece of poetry really spoke to my heart: Jeżeli pamiętacie moje poprzednie zimowe tkaniny ( STĄD lub STĄD ) to wiecie, że zimowy pejzaż kojarzy mi się z koronką. Więc nie zdziwicie się, że to małe poetyckie cacko od razu trafiło do mojego serca: "Dress code" Springtime asks for subtle patterns and colours summer lush and fall exotic but winter in winter the dress code is lace The author knew that I was going to use it for inspiration, hope she will unveil her full name to the public. Autorka wiedziała, że zainspirowała mnie do uszycia nowej zimy, mam nadzieję, że ujawni swoje nazwisko publicznie.  So that's how I see Winter this year. It's a happy coincidence that while I write this, I see almost the same outside - real Winter dress with fresh snow. It's not my favorite time fo

Rooster on blue for a change / Kogut dla odmiany

Image
I didn't want to bore you with more trees so meet my new rooster for a change. It is another effect of my Spring visit in the herbal garden I wrote here and here . There I met some amazing roosters and one of them became my model: Nie chciałam zanudzać Was kolejnymi drzewami, więc dzisiaj kogut dla odmiany. Spotkałam tam wspaniałe koguty i jeden z nich posłużył za model: Handsome guy, isn't it? And here is mine in a full view: Przystojny, prawda? A tu mój w pełnej krasie: I don't know why, but I love to create roosters on blue :) His feathers are a scrumptious combination of different silks and embroidery stitches. I thought it could be a good idea to create more traditional folk art setting for this quite modern farm bird: Pomyślałam sobie, że fa

Autumnal pleasures / Jesienne przyjemności

Image
There's a lot of autumnal pleasures and walking is one of them. And yes, the trees are what we want to admire the most. So follow me for this autumnal walk through my trees. Here is the starting point - pale, mauve tree on the misty, windy day: Jesień dostarcza nam wielu przyjemności i na pewno należą do nich jesienne spacery. Zaczęło się od bladego, liliowego drzewa w mglisty, wietrzny dzień: But after playing with all those pale silks and beads Ale po tych wszystkich bladych jedwabiach i koralikach I needed a change - let's say something in yellows and greens with gold: Potrzebowałam zmiany - powiedzmy czegoś w zieleniach, żółciach i złocie: Coincidentally I needed a new print with turquoise and decided to use this tree as inspiration. Here is what I came up with: Zupełnie przypadkowo okazało się, że potrzebuję jakiegoś druku w turkusie i postanowi

Comfort soup / Jesienna zupa

Image
What's better for gloomy autumnal days than a comfort soup? That's why I made one. And yes, I love mushroom soup :) Maybe it isn't an exact recipe but you get a taste. I really surprised myself deciding on applique the ingredients using classic needle turn method. Haven't done it for a long time but didn't forget :) And added some hand quilting too: Zaskoczyłam samą siebie, decydując się na klasyczną aplikację wszystkich składników. I dodałam też trochę ręcznego pikowania: Isn't it a great idea to keep your comfort soup always handy and not having to really cook it? Not to mention the warmth of this

Apple Goddess / Jabłkowa Bogini

Image
If you remember my "Summer fading away" textile artwork Jeżeli pamiętacie moje lato rozpływające się w powietrzu you can imagine my surprise when I learned about The Goddess Idunn - in Norse folklore she was the keeper of apples, which she fed other Gods and Goddesses to keep them forever young. So I had to give it another try. And here she is: możecie wyobrazić sobie jaką niespodzianką było dla mnie odkrycie bogini Idunn - w skandynawskim folklorze to jabłkowa bogini, karmiąca pozostałe bóstwa swymi życiodajnymi owocami dla zachowania wiecznej młodości. No to musiałam jeszcze raz podejść do tematu i oto jest:  This time I made her more connected to the tree for easier spreading life, wisdom and love coming from its fruit. Tym razem połączyłam ją z drzewem, żeby ułatwić przepływ jabłkowej mądrości, miłości i sił witalnych. While staying on apples and their rich, real and symbolic values, I've spotted apple dolls. They are popular in American and British

Welcome September! / Wrześniowo

Image
You didn't like it that I started Autumn so early but I can't help - it is in the air and on my mind. And here you see the proof - "Autumn in the orchard" :) Nie podobało Wam się, że tak wcześnie zaczęłam mówić o jesieni, ale cóż poradzę - czuję ją w powietrzu i w sobie. Najlepszym dowodem moje świeżutka "Jesień  w sadzie" :) Maybe working on this piece made me so positive for Autumn? Frankly speaking we have wonderful weather now - it is still hot in the sun but the air has its autumnal crisp already, which feels very fresh. Zresztą pogoda też całkiem całkiem - słonecznie, gorąco, ale powietrze miłe, chłodne i odświeżające. And the colors are shining - leaves are still green but the fruit and autumnal flowers burst with color. A kolory wprost świecą - liście jeszcze zielone i na ich tle feeria barw owocowo - kwiatowych. So don't blame me, it's not my fought, it is... Se

Autumn is coming our way / Jesień idzie

Image
Did you notice? So now is a perfect time to expose the tree completed few months ago. It is all Autumn - the colors, the leaves and the mood. The background is vintage linen hand dyed by me. I don't dye very often but this time I knew exactly what I wanted so it was easy to just follow my vision. The main focus was on leaves - you see the appliqued silk ones, black lace leaves and some bleached too. But wait, there are also gold painted leaves Tło to stary super len farbowany osobiście :) Nie robię tego często, ale tym razem dokładnie wiedziałam czego chcę, więc wystarczyło podążać za wizją. A najważniejsze były liście -  no i mamy tu jedwabne aplikowane, czarne koronkowe, nawet jasne odbarwiane. I jeszcze złotem malowane The whole piece is a bit longer than usual (37 in) so it's not easy to show it in full view. Praca jest

Poetry of climbing / Poetycka wspinaczka

Image
Climb that Mountain Deep inside your Brain Your life will never be the same +poetreats ~ artreats   When I read this little haiku I knew I want to see it in fabric. What I saw exactly were the two different worlds, Proste przesłanie małego haiku o wspinaczce na tę wielką górę, którą mamy w swojej głowie natchnęło mnie do uszycia takiego małego obrazka. Wyobraziłam sobie dwa odmienne światy, one quiet and peaceful, a bit dull and boring and the other, peaceful too but with some more colors: jeden cichy, spokojny, troszkę nudny i mdły i drugi, też spokojny, ale bardziej kolorowy: And the idea that you can't see the other one without a bit of mental climbing I ta myśl, że nie możemy ich zobaczyć bez odrobiny umysłowej wspinaczki My personal "discovery" along the process was that it works both ways. Whether you are on the colorful side and long for some more subtle tones or just opposite, you've got to climb this little mountain in your
