The Textile Cuisine

I was just about to write a big post about inspirations and influences in my works when I visited Cathy's Potter Jotter blog and saw the above. Some time ago Cathy said that if her medium was fabric she would sew my quilts and if I was ceramist I would make her pottery. It also turned out that our interests are pretty the same - textile art, Medieval art, gardens, botanical art. We read same books or very similar. And yes, we've never met in person. But I'm afraid she was deeply right :) Właśnie miałam napisać duży post o inspiracjach i wpływach w moich pracach, kiedy zajrzałam do blogu Cathy Potter Jotter i zobaczyłam to co powyżej. Jakiś czas temu Cathy powiedziała, że gdybyśmy zamieniły się mediami to ona szyłaby  moje patchworki, a ja lepiłabym jej ceramikę. Okazało się też, że mamy takie same zainteresowania - tkanina artystyczna, sztuka średniowieczna, ogrody, ilustracje botaniczne. Czytamy te same (albo bardzo podobne) książki.   Both poet and I are sorrounded by our pottery :) And some of my tea pots have their own private life... Obie z poetką jesteśmy otoczone przez nasze skorupy :) A niektóre z moich czajniczków wydają się mieć swoje własne życie prywatne...   So for the next one, Więc przy kolejnym,   I decided to keep it in frame :) postanowiłam trzymać go w ramach :)

So now my kitchen is tidy and the spare moment for relax came. What a surprise - http://jednoiglec.blox.pl/html wrote about me all the nice things. "Your favourite set" - it is the title of drawing received from my daughter (4 years old then). I liked the drawing so much that I had to translate it into fabric. The colors of background and pottery are from her, I just added the border. "Twój ulubiony komplecik" - to tytuł rysunku, który dostałam od córki (wtedy 4.letniej). Tak mi się on spodobał, że musiałam "przełożyć" go na tkaninę. Kolory tła i naczyń są jej, ja tylko dodałam obramowanie. Speaking of kids - I highly recommend two kids' oriented places. The first one is virtual: pikinini.pl (read their blog devoted to childhood), the other you can visit in real: www.kalimba.pl - this is the place where you can also see some of my works live. Well, it happens - sometimes they go broken. No cóż, zdarza się - porcelana się tłucze. But the real inspiration for this piece came not from the broken cup but from the Czeslaw Milosz's poem "Song on Porcelain". That's why the background is so dull and sad. Ale prawdziwą inspiracją dla tej pracy nie była stłuczona filiżanka lecz wiersz Cz. Miłosza "Piosenka o porcelanie". To dlatego tło jest takie ponure i smutne. So now take a look at my cupboard. Is it just me who has a feeling that all the pots and crocks have a deep conversation while hiding in the cupboards? A teraz spójrzcie na mój kredens. Czy to tylko ja mam takie wrażenie, że wszystkie naczynia schowane w kredensach pogrążone są w nieustannych pogaduszkach? And what is this cotton flower doing here? The name of this piece is "Gossip in the cupboard" and the latin name for cotton is... gossypium ! A co tu robi kwiat bawełny? No cóż, angielskie słowo "plotki" (gossip) zawsze kojarzyło mi się z łacińską nazwą bawełny ( gossypium ). A pracę nazwałam "Plotki w kredensie". Pssstt... Don't disturb! Pssstt... Nie przeszkadzajmy!
