The Textile Cuisine

Fancy a fish dish? You're welcome: The idea for fisherman's kitchen portrait arose long ago. It was percolating slowly on the back burner and now the time has come to express it in fabrics. I wanted it rather dark, in tones of browns and blues. Hand dyed antique linen and lace (aka fishing net) were the starting point setting the mood for the whole piece. Smoked fish and the basket of fishes were the obvious choices as well as the big pot with fish soup. I wasn't sure what window view I want but the scraps just lined up for the big sky and the sea. So what to put on the table? At first I wanted simple silver plates but the addition of fishes turned it into splendind feast. That's how we ended up on the fine dining in this humble fisherman's kitchen. I love making kitchen portraits. In the next post will show you more of them, the ones created through the time I was absent here. But of course I had to share my newest baby first, right? Bon appetit!

Hello! After lots of changes and tribulations I'm back in my old saddle. Not sure if anybody is still here but I hope you come back to see what am I up to. This little bun I'm serving for visitors comes from my most recent "Fly me to the moon" textile creation. Living with a bread maker transports you to the cozy galaxy of the warmth, smell and all kinds of heavenly tastes. So I couldn't resist and had to transform all my feelings on a theme into fabrics and stitches. How close my work stands to original models? Judge by yourself. Bon appetit!

What's better for gloomy autumnal days than a comfort soup? That's why I made one. Czy jest coś lepszego w szary, jesienny dzień niż czekająca na nas miska gorącej, jesiennej zupy? Dlatego taką uszyłam. And yes, I love mushroom soup :) Maybe it isn't an exact recipe but you get a taste. Tak, uwielbiam grzybową :) Może to nie jest dokładny przepis, ale oddaje jej klimat. I really surprised myself deciding on applique the ingredients using classic needle turn method. Haven't done it for a long time but didn't forget :) And added some hand quilting too: Zaskoczyłam samą siebie, decydując się na klasyczną aplikację wszystkich składników. Dawno tego nie robiłam, ale jakoś nie zapomniałam :) I dodałam też trochę ręcznego pikowania: Isn't it a great idea to keep your comfort soup always handy and not having to really cook it? So the raspberries aren't that shining but they seem rather strong and powerful (and a bit patriotic considering these are the colors of Polish flag). Maliny okazały się nie być zbyt świecące, raczej intensywnie czerwone (i zaskakująco patriotyczne). Another kitchen landscape completed. And I thought it is a good occasion to reveal some details of the whole concept. As you know, I take the pictures of actual foods/veggies and I show them along the textile works. For example, the picture of blueberries and blackberries looked like this: Kolejny pejzaż kuchenny do kolekcji. Pomyślałam sobie, że to dobra okazja do objaśnienia całej koncepcji. Jak zauważyliście, uszyte smakołyki pokazuję zazwyczaj w towarzystwie zdjęć, na których widać prawdziwe owoce czy warzywa. Na przykład moje jagody i jeżyny wyglądały tak: Sometimes I make the artwork exactly the same as picture, sometimes differently. I'm afraid that I totally neglected my kitchen this summer. I mean textile kitchen of course. But I missed it terribly and collected some yummy ideas to stitch and... this "Summer breakfast" is the only kitchen related piece I managed to complete. Wygląda na to, że tego lata zupełnie zlekceważyłam tematy kuchenne. W sensie szycia oczywiście. Bardzo się za nimi stęskniłam i już mam zgromadzone mnóstwo nowych, apetycznych pomysłów i... jak na razie uszyłam tylko takie "Letnie śniadanie". I'm not sure if it is well balanced breakfast but these are the ingredients which came to my mind while thinking about fresh and crispy morning table. Summer is finished and it was a good one, wasn't it? Warm, sunny and so rich with colors and tastes. I had to capture its fading away: Lato się skończyło, a piękne było wyjątkowo, prawda? Ciepłe, słoneczne i takie bogate w kolory i smaki. Bardzo chciałam uchwycić ten  moment jego powlnego rozpływania się: I wanted to make a small, frame-able piece just to say "good bye!" to Summer. But it turned a bit bigger (32 x 44 cm) so I better add a hanging sleeve on the back because it is big enough to hang on the wall on its own. It will be available for sale as soon as I add this sleeve - which means it may take ages :) As we are heading to Autumn it is time for some changes in the wardrobe, right? To miała być taka mała "oprawialna" praca, takie "pa, pa!" dla lata. A wyszła ciut większa (32 x 44 cm) i chyba powinnam przyszyć z tyłu tunel do samodzielnego wiszenia. Więc praca będzie na sprzedaż jak tylko ten tunel - w praktyce może oznaczać to wieki :)

How to "go Brazilian" if you're not a football fan? That's easy - with coffee! If they deliver 1/3 of all coffee in the world, I guess I have some in my kitchen. Not so long ago I joined a nice virtual group on G+ "My Coffee Addiction". The only thing we have in common is our love for coffee.
