The Textile Cuisine

This is a little bird I stitched some months ago. I named it "The bird of hope" because it was inspired by Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope". And now, in this rough time, I can't find any better words for Season's Greetings than this little piece of poetry: "Hope" is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - Tego małego ptaszka uszyłam kilka miesięcy temu. Nazwałam go "Ptaszkiem nadziei" ponieważ powstał z inspiracji wierszem Emily Dickinson "Nadzieja" (w tłumaczeniu Ludmiły Marjańskiej). A teraz, w tym tak nieświątecznie trudnym czasie, trudno mi znaleźć lepsze słowa, którymi chciałabym się świątecznie podzielić: Nadzieja - pierzaste stworzenie - Mości się w duszy na grzędzie - Śpiewa piosenkę bez słów - I zawsze śpiewać będzie -

I'm a city girl so as much as I love nature, I can see the poetry in urban landscapes too. Jestem zdecydowanie miejską dziewczyną, co oznacza, że oprócz miłości do natury, dostrzegam też poezję w krajobrazie miejskim. My "Sunrise in the city" has nothing in common with my city, but a lot with a moment when the first rays of light start jumping through the big, grey buildings. Mój "Wschód słońca w wielkim mieście" nie ma nic wspólnego z moim miastem, ale wiele z tym momentem gdy pierwsze promienie światła zaczynają przebijać się przez wielkie, ciemne budynki.  I love this very beginning of the day so this piece is, sort of, the sum of all the urban sunrises I've experienced. Uwielbiam ten prapoczątek dnia i, w pewnym sensie, ta praca stanowi sumę wszystkich moich miejskich poranków. MERRY CHRISTMAS! WESOŁYCH ŚWIĄT! Yes, there's a lot going on here. But everything can wait until after Holidays - now it's time for peace and joy and all the seasonal pleasures. Enjoy! Tak, dużo się dzieje. Ale to wszystko może poczekać - teraz czas radości, spokoju i świątecznych przyjemności. Miłego świętowania!

I told you how much I like to make small items from the leftovers from bigger projects. But this time it went opposite. First I made those funky Christmas bookmarks. And suddenly the bigger picture appeared :) Mówiłam Wam, jak bardzo lubię robić te małe drobiazgi z resztek po większych projektach. A tym razem poszło odwrotnie. Najpierw zrobiłam te śmieszne choinkowe zakładki. I nagle pojawił się większy pomysł :)  Very simple yet powerful.  Prościutkie ale fajne. So I'm done for Christmas and can go back to my perfumes :) No to Święta mam załatwione, mogę spokojnie wrócić do perfum :)

As the Christmas season turned out to be the worst one for me I decided to hide in my Textile Cuisine working on the Spring ideas bursting in my head.   Ponieważ tegoroczny sezon świątecznych zakupów okazał się jednym z moich najgorszych, postanowiłam schować się  w swojej Textile Cuisine i popracować nad wiosennymi pomysłami, których mam mnóstwo. But yesterday we made a short trip to Poznan. Few hours of watching the world outside the window put me in awe. The world was grey, and I mean grey. The heavy grey clouds, fields of snow and not a single ray of sun. But it was beautiful! And reminded me, that beside of Christmas there's the whole beauty of winter I want to capture in textiles. Right now :) Ale wczoraj zrobiliśmy sobie małą wycieczkę do Poznania. Kilka godzin patrzenia na świat przez szybę samochodu wprowadziło mnie w stan zachwytu. Cały świat był szary, taki naprawdę szary. Ciężkie, szare chmury, pola śniegu i ani jednego promienia słońca. Ale to było piękne! I

To show you my fishes :) Here they are - in full glory. I showed them on Jariba Market and people liked them very much. I'm developing this idea so the new year at my shop will start with fishes (and hearts, of course, but that's a separate chapter). Pokazać moje ryby :) Oto one - w pełnym blasku. Pokazałam je na Jaribie i bardzo się wszystkim podobały. Cały czas pracuję nad tym pomysłem, więc nowy rok w moim sklepie zacznie się rybami (i serduszkami, oczywiście, ale to osobny rozdział). They are about 14 cms long and 6 cms wide, made out of silk and totally adorable (if I do say so myself) :) The down side of fishes and all my small etsy items is, that they didn't leave any time for making bigger pieces. So this year I didn't even make Christmas quilt for myself :( I also didn't send a single card to anybody :( But it is Christmas time. The only solution is to wish you all Merry Christmas with these small ornaments made BEFORE etsy took my whole artistic life :)

Now, as the hard work is finished (or almost finished) we can celebrate. Wish you all, my dear readers, Merry Christmas filled with love, peace and joy. I'm very glad that you liked my fish. It tastes really good and now I don't have to cook it :) Not to mention that no real fish was harmed during the process. So now it's time for some food for soul - here is my interpretation of nativity. It was last year commision. I was asked to make "the real nativity" - without the snow and any modern additions. Bardzo się cieszę, że podobała Wam się moja rybka. Smakuje dobrze i teraz nawet nie muszę jej już gotować :) No i oczywiście żadna prawdziwa rybka nie ucierpiała w trakcie procesu szycia. A więc teraz czas na pokarm dla duszy - oto moja interpretacja stajenki. To jest ubiegłoroczne zamówienie. Miała być "prawdziwa" - bez śniegu i wszystkich nowoczesnych dodatków.

Here is my mysterious food for Polish Christmas Eve - Jellied Carp. I've submitted it for the contest on TDAC and didn't want to show it earlier. But now it is posted on their site so you also can see it in full glory :) Oto moja tajemnicza wigilijna potrawa - karp w galarecie. Zgłosiłam go do konkursu na TDAC i nie chciałam wcześniej pokazywać. Ale skoro oni już pokazali to i ja mogę :)

I'm very sorry but I forgot about the mysterious food in the previous post :) So here is the next part. And no, it isn't herrings salat, which looks like this: Bardzo przepraszam, ale zapomniałam o zagadkowym jedzonku w poprzednim poście :) No to dzisiaj kolejny element. I like to work on this tree. It is sort of meditative. Especially when the weather cooperates - the outside world is totally white here. And it turned out that after the festival I'm in the selling mood. So I took all my courage and started my very own etsy shop :) I'm just a beginner but I have some plans for development. Keep your fingers crossed! Dobrze mi się pracuje nad tym drzewkiem. Taka medytacyjna robótka. Zwłaszcza gdy pogoda sprzyja - na zewnątrz totalna biel. Ale okazuje się, że po festiwalu złapałam też "sprzedażowy" nastrój. No to wzięłam na odwagę i otworzyłam własny etsy sklepik :) To dopiero początki, ale mam już plany dalszego rozwoju. This was taken yesterday on my balkony. Nasturtium in November? Yes, why not? Here, in the Textile Cuisine we are prepared for the flowers because... it is Birthday time! Yes, the first post of this blog was done on 15th of November 2009. Seems like ages to me. But I still remember my doubts about starting a blog :) And now the only thing I can think of is a big "thank you" to my readers and viewers. Thank you for your interest, support, inspiration. Ok, so now there's no excuse - the real cooking (and cleaning) time. Oh well, but we can still have some quiet moments with a sip of cappucino. No tak, teraz już nie ma przebacz - trzeba się zająć prawdziwym gotowaniem (i sprzątaniem). Zgoda, ale przecież zawsze możemy sobie pozwolić na chwilę wytchnienia z łyczkiem cappucino. Have a nice preparations time and create the most beautiful Christmas decoration (at least in YOURS opinion)! Miłych przygotowań i dobrej zabawy przy tworzeniu najpiękniejszych (przynajmniej WASZYM zdaniem) świątecznych dekoracji!
