The Textile Cuisine

So I'm back from my first teaching adventure. Oh my, it was FUN! I didn't suppose it may bring so many good things to me. First of all - people. Organizers created really creative and cozy atmosphere in Szkoła Patchworku and supplied with everything: from pencils through sewing machines, not to mention fabrics and threads. And students were simply wonderful. It feels pretty good to meet in real readers of my blog, admirers of my art who want to talk about it and learn from me. You know that I wanted to start from the small houses and I think it was a good choice. All of my students were pretty skilled in sewing so they had no technical difficulties and we were able to focus on the artsy side of their houses. Pierwsza lekcja za mną. I było fantastycznie! And my need for Spring appeared as a need for making something botanical. Yes, I know it is half of January but my flower isn't a common Spring flower. It is very special and you have to know its botanical name - Manypeeplia Upsidownia . Moja potrzeba wiosny objawiła się w postaci konieczności uszycia czegoś botanicznego. Tak, wiem, dopiero połowa stycznia, ale ten kwiatek nie jest takim zwykłym wiosennym kwiatkiem. To bardzo specjalny kwiatek i musicie poznać jego botaniczną nazwę - Manypeeplia Upsidownia (w wolnym przekładzie mógłby to być "wieloludzik szalony") . I found it in "The Art of Botanical Illustration" by Wilfrid Blunt, serious historical book about botanical illustration. But not all the illustrators were that serious, let's take English poet Edward Lear and his "Nonsense Botany" (1871). Hope the new year started great for you. For me it is lots of work but this means lots of fun too. As I'm preparing my first workshop , I'm rather focused. It will be about artistic houses and as you can see I'm staying on topic myself. And my houses aren't always that cute: Mam nadzieję, że nowy rok rozpoczął się wspaniale. U mnie to przede wszystkim dużo pracy, ale takiej miłej. Ponieważ przygotowuję się do prowadzenia pierwszych warsztatów , skupiam się głównie na tym. Tematem przewodnim będą artystyczne domy i jak widzicie tego się trzymam. Yes, I know, you may be slightly mad at me for not posting for a long time and now posting too much stuff at once. But I hope that upcoming Holidays will give you some time to chew it all slowly :) It just goes without my control - when I started this serie of small artworks "Windows to the past" I had no clue I will end with the big one too. Wiem, wiem - możecie się troszkę denerwować, że długo się nie odzywam, a potem tyle rzeczy na raz. Ale idą Święta i na pewno znajdziecie czas, żeby sobie to wszystko powolutku przetrawić :) Ja po prostu nie mam nad tym kontroli - nie przypuszczałam, że po serii małych okienek "Windows to the past" będę musiała uszyć również jedno całkiem spore: And you bet it took some time to create :) I domyślacie się, że to chwilę mi zajęło :) But to be honest, it all started from ... the barn. Ale tak naprawdę, wszystko zaczęło się od... stodoły. And why the barn? Because I saw this picture : A dlaczego stodoła?

"Little house on the prairie" - this is my newest autumnal folk art quilt. It is small (13 x 16 in), simple, with great colors and fun in the making. "Mały domek na prerii" - to moje najnowsze dzieło w jesiennych kolorach i folkowym nastroju.  Małe (34 x 41 cm), proste, wesołe. I wanted to show it to you with other recently finished pieces (much more intricate and detailed) when it dawned on me that you would never guess what was the most demanding part of this simply quilt. It is hard to see it on the pictures and I usually don't show it separately so you may now know that I have a thing for... edges! Chciałam Wam pokazać jeszcze inne moje jesienne osiągnięcia (troszkę bardziej wyrafinowane), kiedy uświadomiłam sobie, że raczej nie zgadlibyście, co w tej małej pracy było najbardziej wymagające. Trudno to zobaczyć na zdjęciach, a ja też nigdy takich rzeczy nie akcentuję, więc pewnie nie wiecie, że mam hopla na punkcie... krawędzi! Who would guess th
