The Textile Cuisine

I don't know about your kitchens, but mine, at this time of a year is a jungle :) Very impressive, especially compared to the early spring: Nie wiem, jak Wasze kuchnie, ale moja o tej porze roku wygląda jak dżungla :) Robi wrażenie, prawda? Zwłaszcza w porównaniu z wczesną wiosną: No wonder that one day I decided to capture all the different landscapes I can see around on daily basis. That's how my new serie of "Kitchen Landscapes" was born. Nic dziwnego, że te codziennie zmieniające się krajobrazy  zainspirowały mnie do stworzenia nowej serii "Krajobrazów Kuchennych". They are small textile collages rather than quilts (although they are quilted and embroidered and beaded too). Would be perfect for book illustration, although I didn't find a book for them yet. That's why I decided to experiment with them in printed version. As I mentioned in previous post - printed landscapes are available HERE . The jungle is not translated into fabrics

Some months ago my fellow artist Ania said, that she liked my "Beet soup" very much and that (as the old one is gone already) I should make another one. Great idea - we have this Polish special for summer, beet soup with more cream and yoghurt, served cool. Yummy! No wonder, just look at the ingredients, directly from the green market: Kilka miesięcy temu, koleżanka artystka Ania powiedziała, że bardzo lubiła moją "Botwinkę" i że koniecznie powinnam (tamta już dawno poszła w świat) uszyć jescze jedną. Bardzo dobry pomysł - w końcu lato to czas chłodników! No to na rynek po składniki. Beside the inspirations and influences I wrote about in the previous post, there's a real life and live people who make difference in my works. The carrot you see above wouldn't happen without my bunny. Oprócz wpływów i inspiracji, o których pisałam ostatnio, jest jeszcze życie i żywi ludzie, którzy także mają spory wpływ na moją pracę. Nie byłoby tej marchewki bez mojego królika. This bunny came to me from the other end of world - from the lovely shop in California . If you remember my attempts to wired trees , you know that I loved it from the first sight. I love everything in it - the design, the craftmenship, the wit. Now it hangs in my kitchen to admire and... to inspire. If you remember my old carrots you are not surprised that when I saw THIS picture I had an iinstant idea for a quilt: Jeżeli pamiętacie jeszcze moje marchewki , to nie zdziwi Was, że patrząc na TO zdjęcie od razu miałam pomysł na quilt: Well, it's rather a quiltlet but anyway :) No, raczej quiltcik, ale jednak :) Despite the fact that winter is still here, I'm longing for spring food. That's why I find playing with roots in textiles so fulfilling :) Dlatego chętnie bawię się korzonkami w tkaninie :) It was really funny to make this humble parsley on rich, silk jacquard. Again - it's very difficult to photograph. The piece is pretty long and the silk is shinning like a crazy. It seems that my market is going to be bigger than I planned. Oh well, it happens. I keep adding fresh vegetables and just looking when it is enough. Not yet :) Wszystko wskazuje na to, że mój rynek będzie większy niż planowałam. No cóż, zdarza się. Dodaję po prostu kolejne warzywa i patrzę, czy już wystarczy. Jeszcze nie :)

The very first vegetables and fruit arrived at my market. And the first booth is almost done :) Pierwsze warzywa i owoce już na mój rynek dotarły. I pierwsze stoisko jest już prawie gotowe :)

I'm still working on this landscape but I don't like the results. I thought it is ready for framing and the only missing part is hand embroidery. But after waching I see I was wrong. There's much more missing and I don't know what. Maybe some more quilting? I have to rethink this whole piece once more. Ciągle pracuję nad tym pejzażem i nie podoba mi się. Myślałam, że jest już gotowy, tylko ramka, hafcik ręczny i już. Ale po wypraniu widzę, że byłam w błędzie. Tu jeszcze czegoś brakuje i nie wiem czego. Może więcej pikowania? My landscape is going along smoothly. Pejzaż powolutku "się wypełnia". And a green market brings new inspirations every single day. I każdego dnia ryneczek dostarcza nowych inspiracji. I started collecting ingredients for the leeks' salad. So, the leeks (sliced) are obvious: Zaczęłam gromadzić składniki do surówki z porów.
