The Textile Cuisine

Call me cruel but I had to add some more undone dishes :) Może i jestem okrutna, ale musiałam jej dodać jeszcze trochę garów :) And the main one - for a cabbage.  No i ten najważniejszy  - na kapustę.  Do you remember this ? Believe or not but it is finished! A pamiętacie to ? Nie uwierzycie, ale skończyłam! It was a long way, with ups and downs, but making all the handwork was like quiet meditation. And, thanks to Karen , I even discovered a poem by Katherine Mansfield with "similar picture": Trochę to trwało, miało swoje wzloty i upadki, ale też cała ta ręczna dłubaninka stanowiła rodzaj cichej medytacji. I nawet odkryłam, dzięki Karen , wiersz Katherine Mansfield z podobnym "obrazkiem":   "...Makes me think of orchard places Where the juicy apples grow, And tomatoes in a row."   And now it is hanging happily as a companion piece to the older work. A teraz już sobie to wesoło wisi w towarzystwie starszej pracy.  

Mostly sewing :) Głównie szyjąc :) As you can see I'm in the quilting process. Jak widzicie, pikuję. Now she has more shape. Teraz i ona nabrała kształtów. As for the hand sewing, I remember, of course, that I have some old projects to finish. And I keep working on them... A jeśli chodzi o szycie ręczne, to oczywiście pamiętam, że mam pewne rzeczy do skończenia. I pracuję nad nimi... But it is a bit boring now. So I had to find something for a change :) Ale to jest troszkę nudne teraz. Więc musiałam znaleźć sobie coś dla urozmaicenia :) It is a Contemporary Medieval Miniature in textile :) Sounds good? Well, I'm not satysfied with this one but I'm eager to try more. The size of it is 18x24 cms. I would prefer it a bit smaller. I'm planning to frame it with matt (to be ready to put in frame) and I want it to have this look of medieval miniature. We'll see. I don't know if you count them (I don't!) but believe me, there's more of them :) Nie wiem, czy Wy je liczycie (ja nie!), ale uwierzcie, naprawdę trochę ich przybyło :) I've added some smaller tomatoes and potatos are getting their greens too. Dodałam też mniejsze pomidorki i ziemniaki zaczynają dostawać swoją porcję zielonego. That's how it looks now: Teraz to wyglada tak:

Some months ago, while working on my "Kartoffelsuppe" , I learned from Racaire that in Austria potatoes are called "Erdapfel" - apples of the earth. I knew immediately that I will use this knowledge creatively. At first I wanted to make two trees - apple tree and potato tree as a mirror picture underground. But then came another bit of linguistic knowledge - in French tomatoes are called "pommes d'amour" (apples of love). And this makes a composition :) Parę miesięcy temu, gdy szyłam "Kartoffelsuppe" , dowiedziałam się od Racaire , że w Austrii ziemniaki nazywane są "Erdapfel" - ziemnymi jabłkami. Od razu wiedziałam, że wykorzystam tę świeżo pozyskaną wiedzę w swojej twórczości. Najpierw chciałam zrobić po prostu dwa drzewa - jabłkowe i ziemniaczne jako podziemne, lustrzane odbicie. Ale pojawiła się jeszcze jedna ciekawostka językowa - po francusku pomidory nazywane są "pommes d'amour" (jabłkami miłości). No to to ju

K is for Kartoffel (potato in German), right? K jak kartofel, prawda? What I like the most in potato plants are the flowers. But I couldn't find the way to incorporate them into my work. So the only signs of them are the yellow french knots in the frame :) Najbardziej w kartoflanej roślinie podobają mi się kwiatki. Ale nijak nie umiałam ich wkomponować, więc jedynym śladem po kwaitkach są żółte french knoty w ramce :) Amd here it is how it look in a whole: A tak to wygląda w całości:

So, the main spices are added. Salt, pepper and savory (it could be any fresh herb, savory was the most handful for me). A więc najważniejsze przyprawy dodane. Sól, pieprz i cząber (tak naprawdę mogłoby być dowolne świeże ziółko, ale cząber miałam pod ręką). I've also added some butter and cream to the soup to make it more golden and shiny. Dodałam też troszkę masła i śmietany do zupy, żeby była bardziej złocista i świetlista. Now to the frame and an initial... No to teraz ramka i inicjał...

The soup is quilted already, framed and ready for embroidery. But it may take some time as I have plaaans... Don't know about the patience for them :) Zupa jest wypikowana, oprawiona, gotowa do haftu. To moze trochę potrwać, ponieważ mam wielkie plany... Ale nie wiem, czy wystarczy mi do nich cierpliwości :)

The soup is in the quilting process. Somehow I wanted it to look like from the grandma's recipes book (probably because of the scripture) that's why the boring horizontal lines. But I will add some spices with hand embroidery :) Zupa się pikuje. Jakoś tak chciałam, żeby to miało charakter babcinego zeszytu z przepisami (pewnie przez ten napis) dlatego dałam takie nudne poziome linijki. Ale przyprawię to ręcznymi hafcikami :) And another rooster, of course. This one look a bit greyish but that's because of the weather (and the lack of sun while photographing), he isn't sad at all :) I kolejny kogucik, oczywiście. Wygląda trochę szarawo, ale to z powodu pogody (i braku słońca podczas robienia zdjęcia), on wcale nie jest smutny :)

... yes, you guessed it - potato soup! It's funny because while working on my hen I added a comment to Monotema's post about the potato soup. And she gave me the whole list of German recipes for this soup. I started to read them and thinking about all the ways you can make this soup and finally decided to sew it :) ... tak, zgadliście - kartoflanka! To zabawne, ponieważ w trakcie pracy nad moją kurą dodałam jakiś komentarz do wpisu Monotemy na temat kartoflanki. A ona podała mi całą listę niemieckich przepisów na tę zupę. Jak zaczęłam je czytać i rozmyślać nad tym na jak wiele sposobów można taką zwykłą kartoflankę ugotować to w końcu zdecydowałam się ją uszyć :) The best potato soup I ate in Germany some years ago. And since then I keep trying to reconstruct this taste. Onion, carrot, parsley's root, garlic, nutmeg - these are the must. But whatever you add - potatos rules!
