The Textile Cuisine

Oh well, when your to-do list becomes too long, you just have to put everything aside for a moment and... relax, right? That's what I did lately. Kiedy lista bardzo-ważnych-spraw staje się zbyt długa, dobrze jest odłożyć ją na chwilę na bok i... odpocząć, prawda? Właśnie tak ostatnio zrobiłam. I love botanical illustrations. They are constant inspiration for me and I use them for references in my works. And always have them handy. So it was my first choice for making something just for fun. Especially while having such beautiful linens for background :) Uwielbiam botaniczne ilustracje. Bardzo mnie inspirują i często ich używam jako żródła informacji w swoich pracach. I zawsze mam je pod ręką. Dlatego właśnie taki botaniczny obrazek postanowiłam uszyć w ramach relaksu. Yeap, it's this time of a year - Birthday time. This year I was surprised by unusual gift from my dearest ones - a short, refreshing trip! So maybe it is tough to be a queen (as my mother says) but sometimes it feels pretty good :) And yes, I managed to wash my winter landscape, just to discover that one part... doesn't work :( So I ripped it down. Tak, to ten czas - czas moich urodzin. W tym roku najbliżsi zaskoczyli mnie cudownym prezentem w postaci krótkiej, odświeżającej wycieczki! Więc może i ciężko być królową (jak mówi moja mama), ale czasami to bardzo przyjemne :) Przed wyjazdem zdołałam jeszcze wyprać mój pejzaż, ale chyba tylko po to, żeby zobaczyć, że jednak nie wszystko wyszło dobrze. As we received some great deal of snow lately, working on this piece makes sense to me again :) Duże opady śniegu w ostatnim czasie nadały znowu sens mojej pracy nad tym krajobrazem :) But, as you can see, taking pictures of it is rather a challenge. So you have to believe to my words - there ARE new additions. And I can't wait to wash it. Washing is always a big test for my ideas. It is after the washing when you can see if it all works. After so many hours in my hand the quilt is always very tired and washing is a relaxation for it. But there's still some more hours before it will see the water. Ale, jak sami widzicie, fotografowanie tego to wyzwanie. Musicie uwierzyć mi na słowo - naprawdę PRZYBYWAJĄ nowe elementy. I już się nie mogę doczekać, kiedy to wypiorę. Pranie to prawdziwy sprawdzian dla moich pomysłów. Dopiero po praniu widać, czy to waszystko razem dało zamierzony efekt. Po tych wszystkich godzinach spędzonych w moich rękach, każda praca jest bardzo zmęczona

... is global. And in fact, this is the second "Global Village". The first one was this: ... jest globalna. Tak naprawdę, to to jest druga moja wieś. Pierwsza była ta: Many, many years ago, when I was starting in "quilting business" (read: learning about quilts, quilt history and quilt makers) I joined  a few discussion online groups. Those were the days... I met lots of great people (some of them became friends in real life too) and learned a lot. Thanks to American quilters I discovered the best fabric shops. And a lot of quilters has sent me their scraps. Thanks to internet we stayed connected on everyday basis. This first "Global Village" is the exact picture of this time - I felt like living in a small village, knowing every neibourgh, sewing with their fabrics. Some of you may remember my Japanese friend, Debbie, who makes beautiful etegami cards . I'm a big fan of her works and avid reader of her blog. I can say that she is always in my kitchen because everyday I look at this little magnet from her :) And now, her nice comment under my previous post turned me on. Not so long ago, Debbie posted a picture of her home . I knew that she lives in mountains, on Hokkaido, with lots of snow. But somehow the picture surprised me. Why? Because I thought she lives differently, more like this: Być może niektórzy z Was pamiętają Debbie, moją japońską koleżankę, która robi prześliczne kartki etegami . Jestem fanką jej prac i zagorzałą czytelniczką blogu. Mogę wręcz powiedzieć, że Debbie ciągle siedzi w mojej kuchni za sprawą magnesu od Niej , na który patrzę codziennie :)  A teraz uruchomił mnie Jej ciepły komentarz pod poprzednim postem . Nie tak dawno temu, Debbie pokazała zdjęcie swojego domu . Wiedziałam, że mieszka w górach, na Hokkaido,

If I want to be honest I have to say that this piece is pretty boring in the working. To entertain myself I added the blue scrap and am covering it with white threads. Oh well, but that's what I wanted. Now, when our world is covered with the snow again I feel more motivated. The quietness and peace coming with the snow make me to enjoy my landscape again :) Jeśli mam być szczera, to muszę przyznać, że praca nad tą tkaniną jest raczej nudna. Żeby ją sobie urozmaicić dodałam niebieskie kwiatki i teraz przykrywam je białymi nićmi. No ale sama tego chciałam. Na szczęście spadł świeży śnieg i trochę mnie zmotywował. Ta cisza i spokój świata przykrytego śniegiem sprawiają, że od razu mój pejzaż zaczyna mi się znowu podobać :)

It happens many times that I'm surprised by how (unintentionally) well some different ideas/works/memories go together. It may results in new idea or may not, but I'm always amazed when it happens. That's why I decided to memorize these discoveries. So why not to share them with you? Bardzo często zaskakuje mnie jak przeróżne moje pomysły/prace/wspomnienia wzajemnie się uzupełniają tworząc (niechcący) harmonijną całość. Takie odkrycie może zaowocować kolejnym pomysłem, chociaż wcale nie musi. Ale na wszelki wypadek postanowiłam je sobie zapamiętywać. I nic nie stoi na przeszkodzie, żeby dzielić się tym z Wami :)
