The Textile Cuisine

I don't know about your kitchens, but mine, at this time of a year is a jungle :) Very impressive, especially compared to the early spring: Nie wiem, jak Wasze kuchnie, ale moja o tej porze roku wygląda jak dżungla :) Robi wrażenie, prawda? Zwłaszcza w porównaniu z wczesną wiosną: No wonder that one day I decided to capture all the different landscapes I can see around on daily basis. That's how my new serie of "Kitchen Landscapes" was born. Nic dziwnego, że te codziennie zmieniające się krajobrazy  zainspirowały mnie do stworzenia nowej serii "Krajobrazów Kuchennych". They are small textile collages rather than quilts (although they are quilted and embroidered and beaded too). Would be perfect for book illustration, although I didn't find a book for them yet. That's why I decided to experiment with them in printed version. As I mentioned in previous post - printed landscapes are available HERE . The jungle is not translated into fabrics

... this is an old Polish saying about the weather in March. And here goes the same - some more cabbage and some  transcendence...   ...to niby o pogodzie, ale tutaj tak samo - trochę kapusty, trochę transcendencji... As poet said: Between the passion And annihilation instinct Betweem Eros and Thanatos Jak mówi poetka : Pomiędzy namiętnością A instynktem zagłady Erosem a Thanatosem   Eros on the left, Thanatos on the right. Eros po lewej, Thanatos po prawej. And out of the blue I have to work on something totally different: I nagle, ni stąd ni zowąd, czuję, że muszę zrobić coś zupełnie innego: One day I just pulled some scraps and composed such a background. It is the best sign that the Spring is coming - I need to make something easy- breezy, colorful. So now I just keep adding greens to it :) Pewnego dnia po prostu wyciągnęłam różne  skrawki i ułożyłam taką kompozycję. To najlepszy znak, że wiosna nadchodzi - czuję silną potrzebę zrobienia czegoś szybkiego, łatwego

Some years ago I brought myself a kitchen towel from Provance. Kilka lat temu przywiozłam sobie ściereczkę z Prowansji. At first I thought it was with roses. But no, it was with different types of cabbages. This gave me an idea to make my poet's dress with roses ... and cabbage :) Najpierw myślałam, że ona jest w róże. Ale okazało się, że to różne odmiany kapusty. Stąd pomysł, żeby suknia mojej poetki była z róż... i kapusty :)  

Call me cruel but I had to add some more undone dishes :) Może i jestem okrutna, ale musiałam jej dodać jeszcze trochę garów :) And the main one - for a cabbage.  No i ten najważniejszy  - na kapustę.  Do you remember this ? Believe or not but it is finished! A pamiętacie to ? Nie uwierzycie, ale skończyłam! It was a long way, with ups and downs, but making all the handwork was like quiet meditation. And, thanks to Karen , I even discovered a poem by Katherine Mansfield with "similar picture": Trochę to trwało, miało swoje wzloty i upadki, ale też cała ta ręczna dłubaninka stanowiła rodzaj cichej medytacji. I nawet odkryłam, dzięki Karen , wiersz Katherine Mansfield z podobnym "obrazkiem":   "...Makes me think of orchard places Where the juicy apples grow, And tomatoes in a row."   And now it is hanging happily as a companion piece to the older work. A teraz już sobie to wesoło wisi w towarzystwie starszej pracy.  

Now you can see that her dress will be "made out" of white roses. And her head isn't bald any longer :) Teraz widzicie, że jej suknia będzie "z" białych róż. I jej głowa już nie jest łysa :) And I'm coming back to my (new) daily routine so there's some hope for faster progress. A ja powoli wracam do (wprawdzie nowej) codziennej rutyny, więc jest nadzieja na szybszy postęp.

You see? I didn't lie :) Widzicie? Nie kłamałam :)

Yes, that's how dirty plates look like in a poet's kitchen . Tak, tak właśnie wyglądają brudne talerze w kuchni poetki .  Don't even ask me how I know how the piled, undone dishes look like... I nawet nie pytajcie, skąd wiem jak wygląda stos niezmytych naczyń... But there's something else... Ale jest tu coś jeszcze... Yes, you guessed it right - it is the dirty square of the window :) Tak, zgadliście - to brudny kwadrat okna :)

   Here she is - in full glory! Oto i ona - w pełnym blasku!  You know: "A good wife so proud was, to cook what her Men liked the most" But if you remember the beginning of this story , there's another one coming to us. This time inspired by a serious poem, which I'm going to present to you in the next post. And now I have to confess, that I've found another inspirational poem so it is turning into a serie of "women in the kitchens" :) Wiecie: "Dobra żona tym się chlubi, że gotuje co mąż lubi" Ale jeżeli pamiętacie początek tej historii ,  to wiecie, że nadchodzi następna. Tym razem inspirowana prawdziwym wierszem, który w następnym poście zaprezentuję. Ale przyznam się od razu, że znalazłam kolejny wiersz, więc powstaje nam cała seria "kobiety w kuchni" :) And here is a first sign of upcoming spring - another hen, of course :) A tutaj pierwszy zwiastun wiosny - kolejna kura, oczywiście :)   While putting my hens to the shop

In the kitchen? Not much, just a table. But I made another tree. It is totally different from the previous ones and probably better as a pendant. It is also smaller - 8 cms in diameter. This tree is embroidered on a piece of silk stretched on a copper wire. W kuchni? Niewiele, tylko stół. Ale zrobiłam jeszcze jedno drzewo. Jest zupełnie inne od poprzednich i pewnie lepsze jako wisiorek. Jest także mniejsze - 8 cm średnicy. Drzewo jest wyhaftowane na kawałku jedwabiu, rozpietym na miedzianym drucie. And this tree reminds me that I should start finishing my apple tree :) A to drzewo przypomina mi, że powinnam zacząć kończyć moje jabłka/pomidory :)

This way you can go to another splendid kitchen - in Hampton Court . And if you want to see (not just imagine) how it worked in Middle Ages it is the best place to go. Ta uliczka prowadzi do kolejnej super kuchni - w Hampton Court . I jeśli sie chce zobaczyć (a nie tylko wyobrazić sobie) jak taka średniowieczna kuchnia działała to jest to chyba najlepsze miejsce. And if you want to see my kitchen equipped with some new copper pots - just look :) A jeśli chcecie zobaczyć moją kuchnię wyposażoną w nowe, miedziane naczynia, to po prostu spójrzcie :) It is a big fun to work on this kitchen. Mam dużo zabawy przy tej kuchni. I'm even afraid that's too much fun. Time is flying, my Market and Apples are not finished yet and I'm playing in the kitchen. So I have to discipilne myself and complete something before further play. Obawiam się nawet, że trochę za dużo. Czas płynie, Rynek i Jabłka nie skończone, a ja się bawię w kuchni. Muszę się trochę zdyscyplinować i wykończyć coś, zani

I know you will like the new additions because I put some goodies to the pantry :) Wiem, że nowe dodatki Wam się spodobają, bo włożyłam trochę smakołyków do spiżarni :) Do you remember "The Remains of the Day" movie? With its breathtaking kitchen? Pamiętacie film "Okruchy dnia"? Z tą zapierającą dech w piersiach kuchnią? Well, mine isn't as good (yet?) but is slowly getting better :) No cóż, moja nie jest aż taka (jeszcze?), ale powoli staje się coraz lepsza :)
